How pools (group stage) work

Groups, fixtures and live standings.

A group stage splits teams into pools that each play their own mini-league, with a live table.

Creating pools

Choose the Pools format, then set how many pools you want. Competree deals your approved teams into them evenly and at random — you can move teams between pools afterwards.

Generating fixtures

With at least two teams in a pool, generate its matches. Round-robin means everyone plays everyone once; single means teams are paired once. Played matches are always kept when you regenerate.

Reading the standings

Each pool has a live table. Teams are ranked by points (3 for a win, 1 for a draw), then goal difference, then goals scored.

  • •P / J — played
  • •W / G — won
  • •D / N — drawn
  • •L / P — lost
  • •GD / Diff — goal difference
  • •Pts — points

You can run pools on their own, or feed the top teams of each pool into a knockout bracket.
